Sherry Trifle is a premier British dessert experience and is surprisingly simple to make. Sadly, what appears on many North American menus bears little resemblance to real English Trifle.
Trifle is a type of dessert rather than a precise set of ingredients and there’s quite a bit of flexibility on the choice of base and fruit. You'll often find such ingredients as: Bird's custard, maraschino cherries, fruit cocktail, raspberries, strawberries (frozen or not), lots of heavy whipping cream for the topping and let's not forget the ladyfingers!
This dessert is often displayed in a special trifle bowl!
British Fools are light, fresh fruit desserts that are not only tasty, but pretty impressive, too. And, I’m happy to include several different types of Fools. Most are quick and easy to make and are perfect for a special occasion dessert.
This book is a step-by-step guide to creating my family's version of these incredible desserts that will delight your guests and have them praising your culinary skills.
Beef and kidney stew is a dinner staple in every British kitchen. It’s simple to make but don’t make the mistake of throwing everything in a pot and boiling it. You’ll end up with a disaster.
This guide shows you, in an easy step-by-step manner, how to make any type of stew, perfectly every time.
No matter what kind of stew you are making:
Beef
Ham
Chicken
Turkey
Vegetable
the flavor of the gravy will make it or break it.
Learn the secrets to good gravy starting with a good stock and the proper seasonings.
Learn how to make nutritious, flavorful stews from scratch, using fresh ingredients, without a recipe.
Learn how to fix any of your experiments that don't work out.
In this update version, I’ve also included Instant Pot directions for a quicker, easier, nearly fool-proof stew.
Ask people to list their least favourite foods and often liver and spinach will be on their list. My wife was one of those people. Now she makes regular requests for my Liver & Onions Dinner.
You'll be amazed at how easy this meal is to make and, you never know, your family might just love it.
The ingredients for my liver & onions dinner is pretty specific and there's a reason for each item, as explained in the book. However, be sure to have these items available before you start:
Beef liver (a great source of iron)
Bacon
Onions
Fresh baby spinich
Potatoes (to make the mashed potatoes)
Bovril, or something similar, for the gravy
Dry mustard powder
You'll need a few other things, too, but they should be available in your kitchen.
I'm sharing this recipe with the world so you, too, can enjoy one of the best tasting, least expensive meals you will ever have.
This updated version also includes Instant Pot directions for quicker, easier meal preparation
Sunday Roast meals come with lots of fresh greens, roasted vegetables and a lovely brown gravy. In addition to that, there's often a selection of condiments to perfectly complement the dinners. Things like mint sauce, applesauce, hot horseradish and more.
But, as good as pub food is, you can do better by following these simple steps.
And now, I have added additional instructions for making your SundayRoast in your Instant Pot AND using your AirFryer for the roast potatoes and more. This makes it easier than ever to make an amazing Sunday Roast Dinner that your family and friends will rave about.
I’ve even included two bonus recipes:
PS There are two bonus recipes, too:

Toad In The Hole
The Scots may have their porridge but we Brits have our English Breakfast.
Traditionally, this is a breakfast you feed someone who is going to work on the farm all day or out on the fishing boats. Lots of protein to fuel your body for a day of hard work. It can consist of many things including:
Fried bread
Blood pudding
Bubble and squeak
Bacon
Kidney
Sausages (aka bangers)
Eggs
Ham
Mushrooms
and, he inevitable cup of tea
Today, most of us don't have hard, physically demanding jobs anymore but an English Breakfast can also be an English Brunch. It makes for a great mid-morning meal on a weekend when you have time to savour the delicious flavours.
Have your yogurt and coffee during the week when that's all the time you have to eat before rushing off to the office.
Devonshire tea is not a tea blend like Earl Grey or Orange Pekoe, it is a ritual performed every day in small tea rooms throughout Southern England and particularly the County of Devon.
A favorite pastime for both locals and tourists this tradition should definitely be on your to-do list whenever you visit Devon. Real English tea with milk, fresh hot scones with homemade strawberry jam and mounds of clotted cream are what is on the menu at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
This is an occasional indulgence so don't stress over the calories - just enjoy it.
And now I've included both imperial and metric measurements as well as Instant Pot recipes for easy to make Strawberry Jam.
I've also updated this book with BOTH Instant Pot and SlowCooker recipes for Clotted Cream to make it even easier to make this traditional topping for an Authentic Devonshire Tea.
On top of that, I've added a Whey Scone recipe that uses the whey left over from making the clotted cream.
Whether you use loose tea in an infuser ball or tea bags, it's time to steep your favorite tea, enjoy some scones, jam and clotted cream.
Yes, there is an official Cornish pasty recipe and it is included here along with a US English translation.
By European law, this is the only pasty that can be called a Cornish Pasty and even then only if it is made in Cornwall. So, unless you happen to live in Cornwall, you will just have to call it something else. If you insist on calling it a Cornish Pasty and one day two burly tin miners with strange accents show up on your doorstep, all I can say is, "You were warned!"
What's a Cornish Pasty, you may ask? Well, the official one is much like a meat pie, but you can hold it in your hand and the pastry will hold together. It's much the same for the variations I have provided in this cookbook, although I didn't stop at just meat pies.
Therefore, in this book, you'll find the following recipes Savory Pasty recipes like Vegetarian, Cheese, Mushroom & Leek, Ham, Swiss & Asparagus, Sausage, Pizza, Asian and Jerk Chicken.
You’ll also find Dessert Pasty recipes like Peach & Walnut, Bumbleberry, Banana & Chocolate, Banana Split and Apple & Walnut.
I recently added the Instant Pot recipe for the Cornish Pastry Appetizer filling, as well.
There is a rich tradition of both sweet and savory English baking.
Here’s some of the recipes that are included:

Chelsea Buns (including a bread machine recipe)
